Tuesday 5 October Twin Wells Coal Mine
This walk was once a well constructed track in the early 1900s but has not been maintained. The first highlight of the walk is Buchanans Lookout. The track crosses 3 gullies reaching Ellesmere Lookout. The track then loops over exposed rock and re-enters the forest. The trail becomes indistinguishable at times and there is plenty of scrub to negotiate. The track leads to Cross Lookout where packs could be left for the final part of the walk to Christmas Gully and the Twin Wells Coal Mine ruins and Lookout. Return to Cross Lookout for lunch. Return via the same route. Suggest a wide brimmed hat be worn to protect from head high scrub. Some height exposure exists at points on the walk. Map Bundanoon Distance: Approx 15km Grade: Medium 4.
Wednesday 6 October Longpoint – Bungonia Creek track
The walk starts at the Longpoint Picnic Area. After 200m a view of Mt Kingpin appears. An unforgettable vista. From here the track drops down on to a connecting saddle, sweeps around the west of Mt Kingpin before switching back many times downwards ending on a grassy glade at the end of a spur 500m in elevation below. We will then follow a worn track upstream to Bungonia Creek for lunch. Some hardy souls may consider a swim. Return the same way. Care is required as sections of the walk have a base of loose shingles and small pebbles. Map Caoura Distance: 12km Grade: Medium 4
